PDO Thread Lift

PDO Thread Lift Tightens & Lifts the Face

The PDO thread lift is one of the newer cosmetic facial rejuvenation treatments available at Skin And Cancer Institute’s practices. The procedure targets sagging skin on the contours of the face without the need for cosmetic surgery, general anesthesia or recovery associated with surgery. Patients seeking to achieve the results of a facelift without surgery would most benefit from this treatment. PDO thread lift is an FDA approved procedure.

The PDO thread lift accomplishes a lift at the cheeks, neck and jawline and eyelids and brows. In doing so, the procedure seeks to restore a V-shape to the face by tightening loose skin on the neck and jawline as well.

During the Procedure

The thread lift operates by threading sutures which are absorbable and meant for this use through the skin, to lift the facial contours, tighten reposition them. This in effect creates new collagen production in the area of the lift. Medical grade sutures composed of polydioxanone (PDO) are used by our team of board-certified dermatologists and nurses at Skin And Cancer Institute.

Sutures are used to hold the skin in place after the lift is accomplished. The sutures can be threaded in a subtle manner or a more dramatic one. The pattern chosen will depend on your specific cosmetic goals which you will share and discuss with our dermatologists during your consultation. For example, Nu-Mesh uses smooth sutures which are threaded both horizontally and vertically. The more immediate rejuvenation is seen with the Nu-Lift which uses barbed sutures to instantly tighten and lift the skin.

The procedure can be completed within an hour and no anesthesia is necessary. The sutures must remain within the facial skin for at least 4-6 months at which time they are absorbed into the body. The results can last for up to two years as a result of the collagen stimulation that occurred after the procedure.

What Other Procedures Can I do to Maximize My Results?

Many of our patients opt for injectable fillers or Botox while being seen for a PDO Thread Lift. The results can be accentuated. Also, many of our patients opt for a body sculpting procedure such as Sculptra or VelaSmooth which contours the body.

Recovery After the PDO Thread Lift

The procedure has minimal recovery although common side effects such as soreness, swelling, bruising and discomfort may occur. These should subside soon after not lasting more than a few days after the procedure. The effects can be minimized with ice packs, elevating your head, and any other aftercare instructions you receive from the doctor.
